As the name suggests, Beauty Without Cruelty was launched by an animal rights group, known as the BWC Charitable Trust. These products contain only vegetarian ingredients, and they have never tested on animals since their beginning in 1963. Beauty Without Cruelty was the first company to create cosmetics, let alone a full line of cosmetics, without the use of animal products, bi-products, or testing. It was originally sold only in England. However, the company spread to the United States in the 1980’s, and has since become an international power. The makers focus on ingredients like Vitamin C, Coenzyme Q10, SPF, and Alpha Hydroxy Acids.
It has become more common in recent years to make cruelty free products. However BWC always did it for the cause and not for good publicity. The products are readily available, and their website and the information concerning their products is highly accessible to the average consumer.
However, Beauty Without Cruelty products seem to unfortunately lack any proven anti aging ingredients. In addition, they use alpha hydroxy acids, which have been known to strip the skin of much of its protection, leaving it highly vulnerable to long term damage.
If you are looking for a product with a history of protecting animals, Beauty Without Cruelty is a great choice. They may even have some great foundations, eye liners, blushes, etc. However, for preventative treatment or the treatment of existing wrinkles, Beauty Without Cruelty is not the product of choice.
