Overrated Acai

It should be understood that on its own, acai is no miracle ingredient.  In fact, ironically speaking mangosteen has more proven effects, but it is not as publicized.  Blueberries have greater antioxidant content, but of course we like things that are exotic rather than more effective and yet found in your grocery store.  This is why we like the idea that red wine can be drunk because it has reservatrol when grapes have greater levels of reservatrol in all truth and then you don’t have to compete with the alcohol.  That being said, it is high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.  It has various benefits and could theoretically protect the body and skin from free radicals.  But it should be understood and more importantly remembered that acai does not fight wrinkles.  It prevents wrinkles by fighting free radicals like any other antioxidant.  But it does not produce more collagen and elastin, and it is no more effective than other antioxidants of its kind such as blueberries.  Unfortunately, I would have to say that the only reason acai has been so hyped and received a rating on the top 10 superfoods was not because it has more benefits than others, but rather because you cannot find it in your grocery store or anywhere outside the Amazon.
